Plan an Event
You can get involved by attending or offering public events such as:
- Lectures
- Open houses
- Exhibits
- Workshops
- Tours
- Children's and Youth Activities (History Day, anyone?)
- Hang an Archives Month Poster
While the primary intent of Archives Month is to raise public awareness of the value and importance of archival materials, we encourage event planners to find creative ways to incorporate this year's theme, "Traveling Through California," into their activities. Califorinia Archives month is the perfect time to promote your archives and demonstrate California's rich and varied history through one-of-a-kind documentary materials in your collections.
Tools for Planning
Some resources you may find helpful in planning events for Archives
Month include the following:
- Preserving Your
History brochures created by the Society of California Archivists (SCA) are
now available in English, Spanish and Chinese. These brochures focus on
the topics of researching neighborhood history, preserving and
organizing family papers, preserving family photographs, and doing oral
histories.
- The Council of State
Archivists (CoSA) has some helpful planning resources on its website.
- The Society of
American Archivists (SAA) created a press kit in 2006 which has some
guidelines and suggestions.
